High Speed Rail
The proposals for High Speed 2 (HS2), initially from London to Birmingham, are as weighty as they are controversial, whether in relation to the countryside the proposed High Speed Line might pass through or the cities it could miss out. Public consultation started on 28 February 2011 and will run to 29 July 2011.
A Vision For The Countryside 2026
The Campaign to Protect Rural England sets out an inspiring and optimistic vision for the future of the English countryside, our greatest national asset. 2026 – A Vision for the Countryside describes the countryside CPRE wants to see in 2026, the charity's centenary year.
Tranquillity
Tranquillity is important for everyone – for our hearts, minds and bodies. We all need to 'get away from it all' every now and then. Tranquil areas provide a means of doing this in a crowded, heavily built-up country. Being largely natural and free from intrusive manmade noise and structures, tranquil areas in the countryside allow us to escape the noise and stress of cities, towns and suburbs, to be inspired and to get refreshed.

Princes Risborough Baptist Church Hall
The AGM for CPRE Bucks was held on 6th February 2010 at the Baptist Church Hall, Princes Risborough. The meeting was well attended and included Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Bt., HM Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and Vice President CPRE Bucks, Shaun Spiers, CPRE Chief Executive, Edward Dawson, Regional Director, CPRE South East. and several Branch Executives.
Once the formal part of the meeting was completed, Shaun gave an interesting talk on "A Vision of the Countryside –2026. He outlined the key areas of the CPRE strategy which could be summarised as" the CPRE has been successful at raising the profile for protecting the countryside and resisting inappropriate development. Better farming practices, the efforts of some landowners, particularly conservation charities, and initiatives such as the National Forest and community forests have all helped. But now there is a pervasive pessimism about the ability of the countryside to survive the pressures it faces from built development, climate change and the impacts of globalisation.
