Consultation responses
Housing development at Princes Risborough
CPRE
Buckinghamshire's Mid-Chiltern District has restated its strong
objections to the proposal to build 570 homes on greenfield land at
Park Mill Farm, Princes Risborough. The developer has appealed to
the Government's Planning Inspectorate about the absence of a decision
from Wycombe District Council on the planning application.
In brief, CPRE's objections are that:
- there is sufficient previously developed
("brownfield") land in the urban areas of Wycombe District that can be
used to meet the currently agreed targets for new housing, without
intruding into the countryside;
- the South-East Plan proposes that the northern part of Wycombe District should only be required to provide 30 new houses each year to 2026;
- the proposal would lead to new housing built
west of the Princes Risborough-Aylesbury railway line, which has to
date served as an important boundary for development, and there is a
risk that the housing would become a remote suburb;
- the new housing would be wholly out of
character with its surroundings and the historic and small market town
character of Princes Risborough;
- there would be serious and damaging impacts on
the landscape in the Princes Risborough area, which would be highly
visible from such Chilterns AONB viewpoints as Whiteleaf Hill;
- the development would be close to the Longwick Bog, a wetland habitat rarely found in Buckinghamshire.
