Talks and Events

Talks

The team here at CPRE Bucks are always happy to host a local talk with Rotary clubs, Horticultural Society’s and other community groups in the county who want to hear more about our work. The talk gives our team of Trustee’s the chance to share more about what we care about here at CPRE and our on going work. Answering questions on our current focuses and challenges.

As part of our talk we have a presentation which dives into our vision for Bucks and how that translates practically. Interpreting our goals and what they mean in the context of what is happening in Buckinghamshire today.

Our main goal is for a beautiful and thriving Buckinghamshire countryside that is valued and enjoyed by everyone. We aim to promote and enhance the character of the Buckinghamshire countryside, by promoting a more sustainable approach to land use and to defending the countryside from damaging development. If you would like to hear more about our recent campaigns, our exciting group wins and how you can support us. Please simply email us at office@cprebucks.org.uk to arrange.

An example talk topic to share with your members: CPRE the Countryside Charity has been campaigning for the countryside for 100 years. However our work is as important today as ever… With damage already happening and the climate changing for the worse, our long term aim is to try and ensure we leave this beautiful county of Bucks to future generations in a better state than we found it.
We need to try and repair some of the damage by planting more trees ,
restoring and creating hedgerows , rewilding , protecting dark skies and generally improving biodiversity.

Events

Since Covid restrictions it’s been a while since the team here at CPRE Bucks have had a chance to host an event and speak to the public face to face. We jumped at the opportunity to host a stall at Buckingham Nurseries and Garden Centre close to the northern boundary of our county border in Milton Keynes. As well as a stall at the Amersham Christmas Market.

It was lovely to have a chance to speak to local residents where we made a note of some of the feedback we received. “I do enjoy a good hedgerow!!”, we were off to a good start. When speaking about the important role Hedgerows play locally we were told “Good, keep up the good work” and “We’re already members’ accompanied with a big thumbs up!. Another young family were in the process of redesigning their garden and after our chat said “We will really consider planting a hedge instead of just a fence to block the view and noise of the railway at the bottom of our garden.” We had the opportunity to chat with families, retired couples, local business owners and even chatted with multiple local farmers. One young farmer said he had just planted 6 acres of hedgerow locally in Buckingham. He confirmed Hedgerows do wonders for protecting his crops and are crucial in supporting local wildlife. He was thankful to see us supporting local food and in turn local jobs saying “Great work, we’re all on the same side!”. Our flyers on the importance of buying local food went down a treat with a second farmer walking away with a bundle to display at a popular farmer’s market in Winslow.

We shared about our hard work with regard to objecting large and careless local planning requests on GreenBelt land. One resident beamed, “Keep up the good work, very important, can’t drive down a road at the moment without temporary traffic lights and another huge housing development being built on Greenfield”. One customer although not local was in full support of “fighting large developments with no thoughts on the countryside” she was sad to see 10,000 houses built on green belt in Gloucestershire earlier this year and was worried other counties were suffering with loss of countryside too.

It is clear that what we fight for at CPRE are themes close to the hearts of the residents of Bucks. Overall our presence was well received and we look forward to attending many more events throughout 2023.

If you know of any upcoming events where CPRE could host a stall and share about our work or you are interested yourself in joining our events volunteering team we would love to hear from you at Office@cprebucks.org.uk.

Thank you.
