A new woodland is under development to the north of the village of Wing, East Bucks, and is set to bring a wealth of biodiversity to the local area.

Once finished, it will be open to the public to enjoy. The 51-hectare woodland will be created and managed by Forestry England, working in partnership with Buckinghamshire Council. It will include a mix of broadleaf (ash, birch, beech, chestnut, oak) and conifer (Scot’s pine) planting, as well as grasslands, wet woodland areas and five new ponds.

The plans include the creation of a community orchard, subject to there being enough local interest. The planting for this is set to take place in Autumn 2023, and residents will be invited to take part – so keep an eye out for their call for volunteers!

There will be accessible paths for walking and cycling, and access maintained for the existing footpaths and bridleways that criss-cross the area. The new site will also be linked to the existing Long Spinney woods, and is just a stone’s throw away from the historic house and gardens at the National Trust’s Ascott.

Paula Buck, chair of CPRE: “This is a wonderful addition to the green spaces available for our local Buckinghamshire communities to get involved in and enjoy for many years to come. New tree planting means greater carbon capture and cleaner air, and we welcome the creation of new habitats for native species.”

The public consultation has now closed. For further information, visual representations and consultation responses, visit the Forestry England website:
